Junior Researcher, Security and Defense, Institute of International Affairs
Alessandra Scalia is a Junior Researcher in the Security and Defense Program at Italy’s preeminent think tank Istituto Affari Internazionali (Rome, Italy), where she collaborates mainly on research projects dealing with security and defense issues at the EU level. Alessandra earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Bologna in Italy with a major in International Politics and Security. During her academic career, Alessandra was an exchange student at the European Studies Faculty in Maastricht (Universiteit Maastricht) and at the Global Studies Department of the University of California at Santa Barbara. Prior to joining IAI, Alessandra worked as an intern at United Nations Information Service, the Comprehensive-Test-Ban Treaty and the International Atomic Energy Agency at the UN Headquarters in Vienna, where she specialized in non-proliferation and nuclear security-related issues. Currently, Alessandra’s work focuses on space affairs and the security applications’ of satellites’ capabilities.
